Weekend Fun

This weekend was one of those feel good weekends. Friday evening we went to an old friend's house and met their baby for the first time. I caught up with a girl that I went to elementary school with... my best friend from 2nd grade. Small world. We carved pumpkins and hung out for a short while (it was past the kiddos bed times, but they were very well behaved). After a rainy week, we were welcomed with sunshine on Saturday so we decided to head to an apple orchard that was about 40 minutes from our house. They were having a harvest fest and it was a gorgeous day.
My sister was on her way home and was driving past the orchard so she stopped and hung out with us for awhile. Emerie enjoyed the bounce house and a hay ride, and she sampled the brunswick stew and apple cider. Miles pretty much slept the entire time... I wore him in my Beco Gemini almost the whole time we were there.
On Sunday we went out to hubs' mom's house and hung out with family for awhile... hubs' cousin from Oklahoma surprised everyone by stopping by (he is working in West VA this week so he was close enough to come for a visit). We finished off the weekend with a little cleaning, some Pasta E. Fagioli in the crockpot, and baby belly laughs (the best!!). Hope your weekend was as happy as mine was. :)

Being present

Lately I've been seeing some articles and videos on social media about how people need to get off of their phones and devote their attention to the people around them. While it's ironic that the videos are telling people to get off their phones and people are posting them from their phones, I do see a lot of truth to these videos and articles. I'll be the first to admit that smartphones are addicting and so is social media. I'm going to make it my goal to stay off of my phone while my sweet babies are awake because I don't want to miss one smile, laugh, or moment with them because I'm too busy looking down at someone's Facebook status that I am barely friends with. I don't want to send the message to my kids that I am only half listening to them or half interested in what they are doing. I want to be fully present and fully in the moment with them. I don't want to take the blessings that God has given me for granted. I've even contemplated getting rid of my smartphone or Facebook simply because I feel like they take up too much of my time. I don't want to waste anymore precious time. After all, nothing on social media comes close to this cuteness. Real life is so much sweeter with these two.

Miles: Months 1, 2, and 3

Dear Miles (my sweet little pumpkin),

I can't believe that you are three months old today. These three months have been so wonderful. You are such an adorable and sweet little baby. You have grown a lot since July... I won't know exactly how much until next month but last month you weighed 12 pounds 4 ounces and you were 22 inches long. The doctor is proud of your growth and says you are perfect. :)

You still nurse every 2-4 hours, but normally it's every 2 or 2 and half. You do go 3-4 hours between bottles at the babysitters. Nursing has gotten a lot easier for you, you don't choke nearly as much now (yay!!). You sleep one good stretch most nights from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. After that you wake up every 2-3 hours to eat. I can't complain though... you've never had your days and nights mixed up and we appreciate that.
Your sister loves you soooooo much. She kisses your head all day long and says how handsome you are. She also calls you her little pumpkin and her baby "bruver". She is so proud of you. Your nicknames are handsome, punkin munkin, pumpkin, pumpkin pie, punkin munkin pie, and buck (daddy calls you that). You are a such an easy baby. You are so laid back. You let anyone hold you and you rarely cry. You are happy most of the time... although we've been having a few melt downs here and there where you seem to be inconsolable, I think it is when you are over tired. Those moments don't happen often though.
You smile all the time. Anytime I look at you and smile, you grin right back and then I kiss your face off. :)
You are wearing 3-6 month clothing and size 2 diapers. I got a Beco Gemini baby carrier and wear you when we go shopping and to the park and you seem content in it. You have discovered you hands and suck on your fists all the time. You like to lay on your back and roll from side to side but you haven't rolled over yet. You don't care for tummy time... most of the time you don't try to lift your head, you just lay there and suck on your fists. You are very strong though and you don't mind tummy time if it's on mommy or daddy's chest.
We love you so much. Seriously. I kiss your chubby little cheeks all day long. I'm so glad God is letting us call you ours, but we know that you are His. You are such a blessing in our lives.

To the moon and back,
Mommy (and Daddy and Emerie)
