Plans for labor #2

We are 4 days away from our son's due date. I feel like we are possibly 4-10 days away from it haha... not much seems to have changed on my end. He still seems pretty comfortable in there. I'm okay with that. I'm not miserable or "over it" as so many people seem to feel at the end. I am feeling more ready and anxious. The first time around I didn't know what to expect with labor. Having been through it once, I have a better idea of what to expect and I'm still kind of terrified. Haha. I have been seeing the midwives this time around and so I feel like there is pressure for me to have him without an epidural. I had an epidural with Emerie and to be honest, I loved it. It was wonderful. It changed my mood throughout labor completely. I went from being miserable and uncomfortable to feeling happy and excited. Granted, it took a loooong time for her to get here after that, but it was still helpful. I didn't have any side effects and was able to walk shortly after she was born. I know that the midwives are not anti-medication, the purpose of the midwives is for a more patient centered pregnancy and birth. That was my main goal in switching from doctors (at another practice) to midwives. I wasn't thrilled with the bedside manner that I received during my first pregnancy and labor (though I am very thankful for the skillful doctor who delivered Emerie). So far I've liked all of the midwives that I've been seeing and my plan is to go in without a plan. I'm going to see how it goes and go from there. :) Either way, we are excited to welcome the newest little member of our family... hopefully within a week!

One Week To Go!

Summer is in full swing here at our house. We've been playing in the pool, at the water table, and going to the park.
We've also been anxiously awaiting labor. Ha! We are one week from our little guy's due date and every day we wake up and wonder if this will be the day. We've been finding ways to occupy our time though. Mom and I are having a yard sale on Saturday (assuming I don't have the baby before then) so I've been going through our things and decluttering the house. Hubs has been doing yard work and keeping the pool nice and clean for us. We've also spent some time visiting family and will probably have some friends over to swim this week. We've also been reading some good books lately, Radical by David Platt, Crazy Love by Francis Chan, and Love Does by Bob Goff (the last two I've read before but I'm rereading them because they are so good). You should look into them if you haven't read them. Radical raises some serious questions about "American Christianity".
Today is a perfect day to curl up with a book because it looks like it may storm. Aside from reading we have plans to get more yard sale stuff ready, visit some family and get smoothies at my favorite place (Tropical Smoothie).

5 on Friday!

Happy Friday! The weeks are flying by now that summer is here and the days are running together. I often have to consult my phone to see what day of the week it is since we are out of school. :) Linking up with Darci and friends for 5 on Friday!

{ONE} I have found nothing more relaxing than floating in our pool with a book this summer. It is the perfect way to make my body feel lighter, relax, and have some me time! I don't have a picture of my baby belly in the pool, so this is the best I can do. :)
{TWO} Emerie is such a water bug as well... she loves swimming... although the articles on secondary drowning have scared me to the point I won't even let hubs get her face wet! She's also been enjoying her water table and takes a ride on her tricycle and in her wagon almost every day.

{THREE} Delivery day is getting closer! I go to the doctor on Monday for my 39 week appointment. Eeeeek. I had a ton of BH contractions yesterday, a lot of which came every 15 minutes, which made me a little nervous! I think I better get the house clean today.... just in case our little man decides to make an early appearance.
{FOUR} Now that being a family of 4 is so close, I am treasuring the special moments with Emerie being an only child. Yesterday morning she was in bed with us and she laid down beside me, cupped my chin in her little hands, pulled my face to hers and kissed me right on the lips. Then she looked right into my eyes with those big blue eyes of hers and smiled the sweetest smile! It was the most precious moment.
{FIVE} Hubs and I started reading the book Radical by David Platt yesterday. For those of you who don't know my husband, he doesn't love to read. The only books I've seen him read in the past 11 years of being together are his Bible, a devotional, sports books, and wild life magazines. But he picked out this book at the book store yesterday and we've been taking turns reading a few chapters at a time. It's definitely sparked some interesting discussions between us. You should definitely check it out. It seems similar to Crazy Love by Francis Chan.

Have a great weekend!

38 Week Bumpdate

How far along: 38 Weeks, only 2 weeks to go! We are playing the waiting game now, everyday we wake up we wonder if today will be the day!
Weight Gain: About 30 pounds. I had more swelling with Emerie... I wonder why that is? My face and ankles swelled with her and I haven't had any swelling with him.
Clothes: All maternity clothes or t-shirts/mesh shorts/yoga pants
Skin: Doing okay... I'll be honest, more vericose veins on one leg, and one small stretch mark on my belly
Sleep:  Meh. It's okay, I have no problems falling asleep, I just wake up to go to the bathroom a few times a night and still have lots of dreams so I don't feel like I'm sleeping as soundly as I would like.
Gender: Sweet and handsome baby boy!
Movement:  He's still very active but he's getting big in there... I can feel his butt and his whole back on one side and his arms and legs on the other side. I wonder how big he will be! I'm guessing that he will be smaller than Emerie (she was 7.13).
Cravings: Desserts. Right now I've got a lemon lush that my grandma made and a pretzel salad that hubs' mom made in the fridge and I don't hold back eating those! I also still love fruit and lately I've been addicted to chewing on ice.
What I miss: Deli meat, hot dogs (I've been wanting one this week!), and regular coffee.
Labor signs: The midwife said she thinks he's dropped and he's in a good head down position. They don't check for dilation and effacement at the appointments (which I'm grateful for, it gets people down when they haven't made any progress). I've also been nesting and organizing the house for the past week or so.
Best moments and looking forward to: Spending time with family, taking some time for myself to read a book and float in the pool, the Father's Day church service, and we are looking forward to meeting our little man in the next two weeks or so!
Prayer for the baby: Jesus, we praise you for such an amazing and healthy pregnancy. Your hand has been on us this entire time and we are excited to see this sweet little boy that you have perfectly created for Your purpose. We pray for a safe and healthy labor and delivery. We pray that you will help prepare our hearts and our home for him. We also pray that Emerie will have an easy adjustment to being a big sister. We thank you for blessing us with two children. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
"Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him." Psalm 127:3

Yard Sale Finds :)

We had been looking to get a toy organizer for the living room and for Emerie's room. Her stuff is everywhere! We had a few toy boxes/baskets that we just kind of shoved everything in but they were overflowing and we don't really have tons of room for a bunch of toy boxes. We saw a really great organizer at Target for $62 and were contemplating getting it. I sent my mom a picture of it and was telling her about it and she ended up showing it to my dad. I was going to have hubs and dad make it because it didn't seem to be that complicated and we didn't really want to pay $60 for it. The next day my parents showed up at our house with the exact same toy organizer.... they paid $15 for it at a yard sale! They were actually on the wrong road and were trying to get back to where they were headed and found the sale by accident! Mom said she was glad she showed my dad the picture I sent the night before because he spotted it as they were driving. Totally a God thing. Needless to say, I was pretty excited. We wiped it down and loaded it up! It fits perfectly in our living room beside the fireplace. When Emerie saw it she said "Oh it's sooooo boootiful!" Yes sweet girl, yes it is. :)
They also found this cute little organizer at the same yard sale and got it for us because Emerie's room is decorated with purple accents. It's not big enough for her stuffed animals but it did free up several baskets we were using.
There is a huge local neighborhood that's having a community yard sale next weekend. I plan to go (if I haven't gone into labor by then, have I mentioned I have 2 weeks left!?). Hopefully we can find some other great deals. :)
Have you found anything great at a yard sale?

Father's Day Fun

Yesterday was an awesome day. Church was awesome.... our Pastor preached on prayer and dedicating your life completely to Christ (and he geared the sermon towards the men since it was Father's Day). When he did the alter call near the end of the service he invited those men who wanted to dedicate their lives wholly to Christ to come up.... probably 75% of the men in the first service went up front and knelt down to pray. I cried like a baby. I tried so hard to hold it in because I don't like to cry in front of others, but as I looked around and saw other women doing the same, I could no longer control my emotions (thanks in part to pregnancy hormones!). It was an awesome moment. Now that I've used the word awesome a million times in this post, lets move on to the next part of the day. :)
After church we had a cookout at our house (due largely in part to having a pool, we end up hosting most cookouts during the summer). Both sides of our families came (except two of my sisters and their families, they were out of town or had to work and couldn't make it) and we had lots of yummy food, some swimming, and a horseshoe tournament.
 (watching everyone play horseshoes)
Emerie loves being in the pool. When she wasn't in the pool, she was playing in the water spigot. She is such a little water bug.
We had a great time... I am so blessed to have such a wonderful father and a husband who is a wonderful father to Emerie and our soon to be son! I hope everyone had a blessed weekend. :)

Catching Up

I took an unexpected break from blogging this week.... now that school's out for the summer I thought I would have more time to blog but I've had a busy week! I'm skipping 5 on Friday this week and will just do a little catch up post. Hopefully I'll be able to blog more this week.
The school year wrapped up last Tuesday with our last teacher work day. I am so excited to be home for the summer and am so blessed to have my husband home for the summer as well. I know most people don't get to spend their summer days with their whole family, but hubs is a teacher so we are off together. This was especially wonderful when I had Emerie at the end of May two years ago and he was off all summer to help me figure out this mom thing. I'm really glad he will be with me all summer as I try to figure out this mom of two thing!. I can't believe our second little love is (hopefully) going to arrive in two and a half weeks! We've been busy preparing our home for his arrival. I've spent lots of time cleaning out the guest room, which is now the new nursery... the tricky part is trying to find a place to store all of the stuff we were storing in the guest room!
Aside from trying to get everything ready for our sweet boy (no, I still haven't packed a hospital bag), we've been doing fun summer things with Emerie. She's swam in the pool once (we're hoping to get her back in today, it's been stormy off and on this week), played at her water table, went on a million wagon rides, rode her tricycle, drew with sidewalk chalk, eaten at Red Lobster (thank you parent of a student for the gift card!) and Chick-Fil-A, and went to a play date at church and played on the playground. Hubs and I are still attending life group at church during the week. We usually drop Emerie off at my parents house but they couldn't watch her this week so we used the child care at the church and Emerie did a great job!
I'm learning a lot about being content in life and will hopefully blog about that in the upcoming week. I also hope to post another bump date (which could be my last one!?) but the only photo I have of my belly right now was from when I went swimming in our pool this week and I'm not sure I'm brave enough to post that one! :) I'm too lazy to transfer the pictures from my camera to the computer this morning so I apologize that this a picture-less post!
Have an awesome  Father's Day weekend! We are hosting a family cook-out at our house (we host almost all of the cook-outs during the summer because of our pool!). I am blessed with the best dad and can't wait to celebrate him this weekend. I am also super blessed by my husband who is a wonderful father to Emerie and I can't wait to see him become dad again to our little man!

Emerie's 2nd Birthday Party!

We celebrated Emerie's 2nd birthday this weekend with a Minnie Mouse pool party. The weather was great and she had so much fun. She loved being in the pool (more this year than last year!). She is really going to enjoy it this summer.
 Birthday girl!
We invited family and a few friends (of ours and hers) to the party and just kept it simple with cupcakes, ice cream, and chips. We sang happy birthday but she didn't understand how to blow out the candle so I helped her. :)
She got tons of presents... including lots of outside toys: a red wagon, basketball goal, and 3 in 1 tricycle.
 future star!
Taking a ride with her boy friend (first date is being supervised by daddy, haha!).... His mom is a friend of mine from work and they go to the babysitter's together. :)
She had a great time and we are so thankful God has blessed us with her. We love her more than words can express!

{ONE} Schoooooool's out for the summer! Today is our last day with the kiddos this year. We've got two work days next week and we are done until August! :) I am excited to be home with my family until mid-late August. I see lots of outside time in our future... She loves being outside and cries almost every time we have to take her in. Poor kid!
{TWO} I wrote a guest post for Julie's blog this week detailing my breastfeeding journey with Emerie. Julie has a great series called The Breastfeeding Diaries. I love reading the different views and stories that other women share. You can find my post here.
{THREE} Emerie's birthday party is this weekend so I'll spend all evening baking cupcakes and cleaning up the house. We are doing a Minnie Mouse themed pool party. She has an adorable Minnie bathing suit to wear. Hopefully the pool is warm enough to swim! It's going to be a simple party with cupcakes and ice cream. I refuse to let Pinterest make me feel bad about it! Ha! I still can't believe she is two. My baby is growing up. Here she is on her actual birthday, hugging her Minnie balloon.
{FOUR} Our families threw us a baby shower last weekend. We got tons of adorable boy clothes. I always thought girl clothes were so much cuter than boys but these clothes were so cute! I can't wait to see our little man in them. I didn't get a single picture at the shower. Major fail!
{FIVE} I've started the long process of washing baby things and plan to clean out the guest room and begin filling it with baby things! Less than 4 weeks until we are a family of 4!! :)

Have a great weekend!
