Weekend Highlights

Despite the rainy weekend and cooler weather, it was very productive and fun. On Friday we looked at a house (that we decided wasn't the one for us), went out to dinner, put Emerie to bed and cleaned up a little bit in preparation for the showing of our house. I hope the showing went well but I'm not going to hold my breath. Who sells their house the second time it gets shown?
Saturday we got ready and did all the last minute cleaning and tidying up that we needed to and we loaded up the dogs and headed to McDonalds (we're so glamorous) for breakfast while our house was being shown. After we took Emerie home for her nap, I went and hung out with my sister (Target and our fav Mexican restaurant) and then went to a friend's baby shower. I left the shower a little early so that we could go to the movies with hubs' mom and her friend. We saw the movie God's Not Dead. We all really enjoyed the movie. It held our attention the whole time and had a surprising ending. Go see it!
Sunday we relaxed at home and I got in a prenatal barre workout... which I loved! It was only a 20 minute workout but I could feel the burn and my muscles shaking while I was doing it (which is a good sign for those of you who aren't familiar with Barre workouts). I didn't get to do the 20 minute stretch after though, because someone woke up from the shortest nap ever! :) I spent lots of time with my girl and then I did my first Spanish lesson on Rosetta Stone. I did the core lesson but I didn't have time to do more because hubs has a final paper due for his grad school class and needed the computer. I'm not very good at learning other languages but I'm hoping I will be successful through Rosetta Stone!
I've also spent any down time that I had this weekend reading Restless by Jennie Allen. It's a really good book and I'm learning a lot about myself through reading it. I'll blog more on that later.
Well, I guess that's it for now. Hopefully you will be blessed with the same wonderful forecast that we are this week... 60's and 70's and mostly sunny! :)
Happy Monday!

{ONE} I'm already over this whole home selling and buying process! We had a showing scheduled this week so we spent a lot of time cleaning only for the people to cancel because of the weather (the roads were fine, it only snowed a little bit). Needless to say I wasn't very happy... it's hard to keep things in "showing" condition when you have two big dogs and toddler running around! We have a showing this weekend so hopefully we can just tidy up some since the house is pretty clean. We also looked at a house yesterday afternoon and are looking at another one this afternoon. We haven't found what we want yet! I would really like to move before this baby is born but it doesn't look like that will happen.
{TWO} Speaking of baby... I passed my glucose test! Yay bring on the sugar. Haha. I also can't believe that after my next appointment I will be going in to check on baby every two weeks! Eeeeeek. That makes it seem so close. We are less than two weeks away from the third trimester. And we have a name! :)
{THREE} Emerie's birthday is coming up.... she will be 2 in two months! I can't believe it. I love that little girl so much. She is just the cutest. I better start planning her party.... Hello Pinterest. And not to get off the subject, but my poor girl is getting 3 teeth right now, one upper molar and two lower teeth. No wonder she hates having her teeth brushed!
{FOUR} Has anyone used Rosetta Stone? Our school division has a site license and I signed up to learn Spanish. I took three years of French in high school but I wasn't very good at it. I hope the Rosetta Stone program will help me learn Spanish. I've always wanted to learn another language but it's always seemed so daunting.
{FIVE} I've been so lazy about cooking lately.... one of our go to meals are what we call "hobo pies". You basically just put hamburger and mixed veggies in foil, cook it on the grill for 30 minutes (flipping halfway through) and then smother it with A1 sauce when it's finished. It's definitely Emerie's favorite meal. I love it because it's easy and hubs makes it so I don't have to worry about dinner or whether or not my picky toddler will eat what I cook! (Not a very pretty picture but it really is delish!)
Have a wonderful weekend!

5 on Friday!

{ONE} I head back to the midwives on Monday to check up on our little man. He is kicking and rolling non-stop and often wakes me up in the middle of the night. I love that feeling though. :) I can't wait to meet him (but hang in there for at least 12 more weeks!!). We are 25 and a half weeks and counting. Glucose test is Monday as well, trying not to stress about it! That Chick-Fil-A milkshake I had last night probably won't help the outcome. :)
(from what was most likely our last ultrasound at 20 and a half weeks, sweet little baby boy!)
{TWO} Yesterday was the first day of spring and it warmed up slightly here in Virginia... we reached the mid to upper fifties (which felt like a heat wave) so of course Emerie wanted to play outside as soon as we got home. :) I'm excited that the next few days will be warmer and we can get outside (and also dreading and avoiding the weather forecast for snow on Tuesday!).
{THREE} We had life group at church on Tuesday night and the series that we've been doing is all about building relationships... part of that is telling people your story.... so hubs and I told our story Tuesday night. I'm not a huge fan of speaking to a large group of peers so it was a little nerve-wracking for me but I love love love our life group. They are always there to offer prayer and support to anyone who needs it and it was an awesome experience to tell our story and get to know others in our group better. I definitely stepped out of my comfort zone Tuesday night and it felt good. You can read more about my journey to live more intentionally here.
{FOUR} Now that spring is here the countdown to summer is officially on... 54 days of school left! :) I am looking forward to summer.... I'll be able to enjoy my last few weeks of pregnancy in the comfort of my home with my feet propped up. If we haven't moved by then you will find me and my giant baby belly under the canopy by our pool. :)
{FIVE} My sweet little Emerie will be 22 months on Sunday. I can't believe how close she is to 2 years old! She's the sweetest thing. I tell her I love her 3 million times a day and she always says it right back to me, but on Wednesday she told me she loved me without me saying it first. She did it not once but twice that day. My heart may have burst. I love that little girl so much!
Have a fabulous weekend!

Living Intentionally

My goal for this year was to live more intentionally and I've realized that I still haven't accomplished that. I do a lot of dreaming and wishing and not as much doing. I have been reminded of this lately so I am going to continue to try to live more intentionally... when I come up with an idea or something that I would like to do, I'm going to do it rather than talk myself out of it.
One of the things that I've started to realize is that I don't love running, as much as I would like to and as much as I admire those that do, I don't. And that's okay. My goal isn't to be a runner, it's to be healthy and in shape and to teach my kids to take care of their bodies and to be active. I can do that without trying to be a runner. You have to start somewhere and since I'm pregnant and not wanting to join a gym again and take classes, I finally ordered the Prenatal Barre workout DVD that I've been thinking about forever.
It's little things like that. I get an idea in my head of something I want to try or do and then I think about it forever and eventually talk myself out of it!
Cleaner eating is also a goal of mine. I don't want to go paleo or anything like that but just eat fresh/less processed foods. So I bought a bunch of veggies at the store this past weekend and started making veggie wraps to take for lunch.
This one is cucumbers, red peppers, red onion, lettuce, and tomatoes with red pepper hummus. It was pretty good. I put too much hummus on it. I'll probably try the same veggies with some ranch dressing. I'm just making small changes here and there with this one... for example, instead of big casseroles with lots of cream of this and that soups, hubs and I are using the grill more and just doing meat and veggies. We made tilapia (not on the grill) with sweet potatoes the other night and it was just as filling as a casserole and took a lot less time! Not to mention that we have a freezer full of (free) steaks from hubs' granddad's farm and that sounds way more appetizing than a casserole!
There are lots of other things that I am working on/towards so I may do a weekly or monthly post to hold myself accountable for following through with things that I want to do. It's been on my mind a lot so it feels good to write about it. Hopefully these posts will encourage someone else to live life more intentionally. I'm rereading Donald Miller's book A Million Miles in a Thousand Years, and I'm reminded that our life is a story. I want mine to be an interesting story. Good stories begin when you leave your comfort zone, when you change, when you do something you didn't think you could. I just can't let fear get in the way.
“Fear isn’t only a guide to keep us safe; it’s also a manipulative emotion that can trick us into living a boring life … the great stories go to those who don’t give in to fear.”  -Donald Miller, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years

Weekend Fun

We were home due to snow yesterday, and as much as I didn't want another snow day because we will be in school forever making them up, I loved the time at home to relax. We had a busy weekend seeing family and it was nice to hang out at home an extra day, play in the snow with Emerie, and get things ready for the week.
Saturday the weather was pretty nice so we dressed in bright spring like clothes and went to my favorite smoothie place of all time... Tropical Smoothie! The cafe finally opened in our area this month so we took Emerie there for a smoothie and some lunch. She's a fan as well. :)
Sunday was not nearly as warm and by Monday it looked like this outside:

Yeah. We are over winter. I'm sure everyone is ready for spring but we put our snow pants on and played outside anyway.
I had to reschedule my 25 week check up/glucose test (which was supposed to be yesterday afternoon). Now I'll be celebrating the first day of spring with a nice orange glucose drink. :) Here's to hoping that I pass!!

24 Week Bumpdate!

(excuse the poor quality, hubs couldn't figure out how to take a clear picture with my new camera so I had to use the self timer!)
How far along: 24 weeks
Weight Gain: I had gained 6 pounds at our ultrasound 3 weeks ago. I'm sure that it's several more by now. :)
Clothes: Mix of maternity and regular clothes. I can only button a few pairs of regular pants now (the ones that are low rise) and even that's pretty uncomfortable so I'm using my belly bands a lot! Mostly maternity shirts but a few regular ones if they are longer or more flowy.
Skin: Skin is doing okay, no stretch marks yet! :) Dry winter skin is all I can complain about.
Sleep:  Sleep is okay, I wake up several times because my subconscious tells me I'm laying on my back and shouldn't be!
Gender: Sweet and handsome baby boy!
Movement:  Constantly wiggling in there. He's kicking and rolling all the time. I can see him moving from the outside now. I'm feeling some body parts now that he's bigger and is taking up more space.
Cravings: I haven't had too many intense cravings lately. I've been eating strawberries and went through a phase where I couldn't get enough sweets but I've cut back on that lately. Trying to eat better and not as much sugar.... my glucose test is on Monday!
Aversions: nothing, thankfully!
What I miss: Deli meat and sub sandwiches. Regular coffee (I've been drinking decaf every day now that my aversion to coffee is gone).
Workouts: Chasing a toddler? Haha. The weather is just starting to warm up. I'm certain I'll have a decent amount of walks in this week!
Best moments and looking forward to: Best moments are feeling this little one move and kick and become noticeably bigger in my belly. I'm looking forward to wearing some of the spring maternity clothes that I bought for my birthday. :) And I'm anxiously looking forward to the day that hubs and I decide on a name for this little man!
Prayer for the baby: Lord I pray that you continue to bless the development of this sweet little boy. I pray that his brain and lungs continue to develop in the unique way that you designed them to. I pray that he stays safe and protected in the womb. I hope that he knows how much he is loved and how excited we are for him to join our family. Thank you for your continued blessings. In Jesus name, Amen.
"Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name; for the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations." Psalm 100:4-5

Weekend Fun

This weekend was so nice! The weather was finally warmer and we were able to get outside. Hubs was out of town at a the Wildfire Weekend conference so Emerie and I spent Friday evening and Saturday together. We picked up Chick-Fil-A for dinner Friday night and just hung out at home. Saturday we had a birthday party to go to and we ended up spending much of the day outside. Emerie doesn't sit still for more than a few minutes and she saw a present that was in a Minnie Mouse bag and was on the verge of throwing a fit to get it. Thankfully there was a playground at the church where the birthday party was held so my sister and I took Emerie out to play for most of the party.
My dad came out periodically and played with her too so that we could go back in and eat dessert. :) She loved swinging on (what's left of) my lap! The swings are much more narrow than I remember them being and my hips and baby belly were squished!
It's going to be in the upper sixties for the next two days and I am so looking forward to being outside without having to bundle up under a bunch of bulky clothes! My growing midsection can barely fit in my North Face jacket now. Hope you had a warm and sunny weekend! :)

5 on Friday

We've had three snow days this week so today feels like Tuesday but I'm glad it's not! Linking up with Darci and friends for another 5 on Friday.
 photo db7528c5-a5c8-4eb0-9519-22997b018248_zps7d56832d.jpg
{ONE} Can I just start by saying that nightgowns on toddlers are adorable? We were gifted several nightgowns for Emerie for Christmas and hadn't put any on her until this week. I thought she would hate them but she actually loved them. She kept looking at this one and saying "Oh wow, it's Sofia!!"
(I hate that this one is blurry but she doesn't hold still for a second!)
{TWO} Hubs is so excited that he gets to attend the Wildfire Men's Weekend.... not only will he get to listen to a lot of great speakers, make new friends, and draw closer to God.... he gets to fly to the conference in a private plane with four of our life group friends. Lucky duck!
{THREE} Emerie and I went to get a few groceries at Walmart and we ended up leaving with some new coloring books and this big purple ball. It's her new favorite toy! Right now she prefers balls, rocks, and playing outside and doesn't care too much about dolls and other girly toys. Melts her daddy's heart. :)
{FOUR} Growing up, I loved to dance... I took ballet, jazz, modern, and tap for awhile and thought it was the best thing! When I heard about the new barre workout I really wanted to try it.... not many local gyms offer it but there are several studios in nearby cities that specialize in barre classes... I hope to try a few this summer so until then I'm thinking about ordering this video... It combines Pilates and ballet into a workout! This of course is the prenatal version, lets face it... my ever expanding midsection probably couldn't handle the ab portion of the regular barre workouts! What is your favorite way to workout?
{FIVE} This weekend is supposed to be in the 60's and I can't wait to get outside! I am more than ready for spring... and summer if I'm being honest! Happy weekend friends!

Miscellaneous Monday

We are home again today due to another snow storm. I am praying that we don't have to make these days up (because I feel sure we will be home tomorrow as well). Today is my hubby's 30th birthday so I let him sleep in (I always do, I can't sleep past 8 anyway) and I made him breakfast. He has been asking for biscuits and gravy for sometime now but I had never attempted to make gravy. I decided his birthday would be the perfect time to surprise him and give it a try and it turned out pretty good!
We just put Emerie down for her nap so I am taking a few minutes to catch up on my blog and play on Pinterest. I've been pinning things for our little man's nursery, postpartum workouts, and natural type things (such as gardening, recycling, homemade products, etc.
This weekend was fairly relaxing... I have tried to clean up the house, though every time I get one thing straightened up, something else looks like a disaster.... life of a mom I guess! Emerie has been playing and reading her books and yesterday she surprised us by taking a three hour nap! I went shopping for some maternity clothes and got this adorable dress at Target. Now if it would just warm up so I could wear it!!

And then I went to a baby shower for a friend from work. There are several other teachers at my school that are pregnant as well, and everyone around us jokes that you shouldn't drink the water! I love pregnancy and feeling the baby kick and roll. I love my belly and am fortunate to have had two easy pregnancies (so far). I am trying to savor the little things with this pregnancy, in case it's my last one. I've been thinking about that too but I am still not sure if this little one will complete our family or if we will want more. We'll see!
We don't have big plans for the rest of this snowy day.... just going to hang out and watch some TV, snack, and relax! I've been watching The Bachelor but it's awful this season. I am looking forward to the Women Tell All segment more than the season finale! :) Emerie will stick to watching Mickey Mouse. :)
