5 on Friday: Birthday Edition!

Today is my 29th birthday. One more year in my 20's. One more year til the big "dirty thirty" (I've always hated that term by the way). I've been thinking about things that I want to happen/accomplish over the next year (Lord willing), before that milestone birthday gets here. Some of them are things that I hope to do simply because our family needs those things to happen, and others are personal goals. Since I had 5 things on my list, I decided it would be a perfect birthday edition for 5 on Friday. Link up with Darci and friends to join in!

{one} Give birth to a healthy baby boy on or around July 2. This one obviously has to happen because he can't bake my in belly forever but I always said that I wanted to be done having kids by thirty. Whether or not that's true anymore I don't really know. A lot of people assume that since we will have a boy and a girl, that we are satisfied and done with having babies. We've always talked about having three kids so I have no idea if we are in fact done having babies yet. :) We'll see how overwhelming two is... we might just wait a little longer before having a third one.
(Emerie shortly after she was born, ahhhh that newborn baby smell. I can't wait until her little brother gets here, I love the sweet snuggles of a newborn baby!)
{two} Move. We really would like to move before Emerie's baby brother arrives. We found a house that we really like last weekend but it's bigger than what I wanted. I know that shouldn't really seem like a problem, but the bigger the house the more to clean, the more furniture you need, and the higher the utility bills. So we are still praying about it... we have to sell ours first so it could be awhile.
{three} Run a 10K or a half marathon. I've always admired other women who are runners. I admire the fact that they can commit to it, train and develop their endurance, and learn to enjoy it. I admire the fact that they are teaching their children that it's important to be healthy and some even include them on all of their runs... something that they do together. When I first got pregnant with this sweet boy, I had this strange desire to run all the time. I ran the first few weeks of this pregnancy without even knowing I was pregnant. I am still trying to jog and walk often (though with this awful winter weather we've had, it hasn't happened much). So once he makes his appearance I am hope to begin some sort of training plan for a 10K or half marathon and I'm going to choose a fun one for my goal, possibly something in Florida, near a beach? I'll have between August and February to train and complete this goal!
{four} Take a family vacation. Hubs and I haven't traveled much lately and I'm hoping that we can arrange some kind of vacation this year, whether it's a week long vacation or just a weekend getaway.
Emerie's first trip to the beach/first family vacation @ 4 months old.
It was several blissful days in a beautiful beach house just hanging out and enjoying the company of family.
{five} Spend more time with God, my family, and friends (and less time on the iPhone, computer, etc.).
I think this one will always be on my list.

Here's to hoping for a great last year in my twenties. :)
Happy weekend!

5 on Friday!

Hello friends, I'm back for another addition of 5 on Friday! Link up with Darci and friends to join in the fun!
 photo db7528c5-a5c8-4eb0-9519-22997b018248_zps7d56832d.jpg
{ONE} Monday was by far the best day this week.... we had our anatomy ultrasound and found out that we are having a beautiful baby boy! Emerie is going to be big sister to a little brother! You can read all about it here.
{TWO} Usually I am a pretty happy, go with the flow person... this week, man that's a different story! This week has been challenging for me. Emerie is battling a cold and a new tooth coming in so she's had lots of meltdowns and moments where she refused to eat anything that I cooked for dinner (so she settled on a frozen pancake and a yogurt!) and work has been stressful as well. Hopefully next week will be better for all of us. :)
{THREE} We had a showing of our house this week and that added to the chaos and stress of the week. Trying to get the house cleaned from top to bottom (in less than 12 hours) with a toddler and two fur babies is challenging! I haven't heard how the showing went. Fingers are crossed that it went well but I'm not holding my breath, I mean who sells their house after one showing?! I wouldn't hate it though.
{FOUR} Moving on from this bad week (aside from Monday, which was amazingly awesome!) I am excited to go look a some houses with hubs tomorrow and plan to take a long walk/jog since it's calling for 60's and sunny! :)
{FIVE} I have been reading the book Wild by Cheryl Strayed and it is really good. My sister recommended it to me because she loved it and they are making it into a movie right now! If you are looking for an entertaining read that will have you laughing and crying, Wild is a good one.

Happy Friday friends! Have a wonderful weekend!

It's a....

We are over the moon excited to be having a boy! I feel blessed to be able to experience raising a son and a daughter (though I would have been just as blessed/content to raise two girls!).
We just had our anatomy ultrasound on Monday and he looked perfect. He entertained us by scratching his head, sucking his thumb, waving his arms, crossing his ankles, and yawning. :) He is measuring right on track as well.... I am sad that I probably won't see him again until he makes his grand arrival! He's very low... it's so strange because Emerie was up pretty high or at least mid-belly and this little guy is very low. Even the ultrasound tech said she was surprised at how far down he was (but also assured me it was totally normal)...  when they did the internal ultrasound she laughed because he had his hand on my cervix! Haha. I keep telling everyone it feels like he's trying to escape. Stay in there sweet boy! You still have at least 16 weeks til full term!
I've gained 6 pounds, which is about 5 pounds less than what I had gained with Emerie at this point. I'm feeling great, no aches or pains to complain about. My itchy skin has calmed down since I gave up on using tummy butter and am just using regular Jergen's lotion. I go back in 4 weeks for the glucose test, which I am praying that I pass because this baby wants sweets alllllllll the time. I basically eat a candy bar a day! I have no will power to resist. My cravings for fruit have subsided and I've finally been able to eat beef again! I'm also able to drink coffee which I hadn't been able to do for the first 18 weeks or so of this pregnancy.
My parents were just as excited as we were to learn that we are having a boy... Emerie brought blue balloons in to reveal the news to them. They were grinning from ear to ear! This is the first boy on my side of the family.... I have three sisters, their only grandchild (Emerie) is a girl, and my sister is expecting a girl in April! So six girls later and they are finally going to experience a baby boy. :)
Needless to say, we are already smitten with this little one and are making big plans to spoil him. We have also picked out a name but we aren't going to share it just yet... maybe in a few weeks. :) Emerie really has no clue what is going on but she asks to see the baby or "baby doll" and pulls my shirt up to see my belly. She loves to sit beside me and pat my belly. And she also asks to "kiss baby doll" and kisses my belly. So her brother is already feeling the love! He kicks her sometimes when she is laying on me but she's completely oblivious to it. I'm sure once he arrives she won't be oblivious to his kicks! :)
Okay, that's all for now.... I'm off to pin cute nursery pictures and brother/sister photo shoots. :)

Today's the big day!

My house is quiet right now (it's 2 p.m. on Saturday) except for the sound of the Olympics on TV. Hubs has been asleep on the couch and Emerie has been asleep in her crib for 2 and a half hours. I'm sure this quiet will end soon, and I'm surprised it's lasted this long! :) We don't have big plans today.... after Emerie eats lunch we are going to head to the library, ride around to look at a few houses in local neighborhoods, and then make a pit stop by the grocery store before settling in for the evening. It's cold and windy today, started with a little snow but it was mostly wet and made no difference considering we already have 17 inches on the ground. I've been cleaning out my clothes and thinking about baby love #2. We find out on Monday (this is a scheduled post so if you're reading this, we find out today!) if this little love is a boy or a girl and I've been pinning nautical themed nurseries and making plans to refinish old furniture all morning. A few people have asked us if this will be our last child or if we want more. To be honest, I have no idea at this point. We have always talked about having three children but I don't know if we will or if this sweet little one will complete our family. It makes no difference to me if this baby is a boy... as many people have assumed we will keep trying for a boy if this one turns out to be another girl. That is not why I would continue to expand our family. We would have a third child because we really want more children, not to see if we can get a different gender! Right now my priority is Emerie and her new little brother or sister. Oh and moving. Please Lord, let us sell our house soon. I really don't want to decorate and complete a new nursery in our current home... I'd rather only go through that process once and have it be in our new house! :) Be back on Tuesday with the 20 week update (complete with bump/ultrasound pics!). Happy Monday! (It certainly is for us!!) Squeeeeee!

5 on Friday!

I'm sitting in our den upstairs enjoying the quiet morning with the sunlight streaming in. Waiting for the coffee to finish brewing. I love getting up before the rest of the family. Having a few quiet moments to myself to blog or do my devotions. :)
Now I'm linking up with Darci, Christina and friends for another 5 on Friday!

{ONE} In case you haven't heard, this week everyone is saving a special spot on their list for a little baby named Teddy who has Menkes Syndrome. Please pray for him and his family. Visit his CaringBridge page here. #TeamTeddy
{TWO}We got 17 inches of snow (the last time we measured, it hadn't stopped snowing at that point) this week so I took advantage of the time off from work to clean the house and make this yummy pasta salad.
{THREE} I also made this Taco Soup from Christina's blog last weekend and it was super delicious. I made it in the crockpot and hubs and I ate it all in 2 days! I wasn't sure if I would be able to eat it because I've had an aversion to beef this entire pregnancy but the baby has decided that he/she is over that. Hallelujah!
{FOUR} We don't have big plans for Valentine's Day since we don't know if the roads are drivable. So I'll probably continue my "spring" cleaning and go through all of my clothes today. Whew. What a steamy Valentine's day. Haha! In all seriousness, Valentine's day was my last first date 11 years ago. Hubs picked me up and took me to dinner and a movie. I was just a senior in high school and he was a freshman in college! So much time has gone by....11 years, 3 college degrees, 2 dogs and a cat, several moves in several cities, a house, a beautiful toddler, and 1 baby on the way later, we are still going strong!
{FIVE} Here was our sweet little Valentine from last year... can't believe she was so tiny!
Happy Valentine's Day!  I'll be back on Monday to do our 20 week update, we've reached the halfway point and find out on Monday afternoon if this little one is a boy or girl! We are so excited! You can also read about our snow day yesterday here. Have a great weekend!

Snow Day Randoms

I am sitting at the desk in our den upstairs watching it snow. It's been snowing for 24 hours now and we have probably close to 20 inches. We had 15 this morning when we got up and it's been snowing all day.... needless to say, tomorrow will be another day off of work! I sure hope we don't have to make these days up (someone said we may not because the governor declared Virginia in a state of emergency?). I'm fearful that if we do I may have to take maternity leave this school year instead of next! That would mean we would still be in school the first week of July. I sure hope not! :) I've spent the day cleaning, making yummy pasta salad, and hanging out with my little family. I haven't even bothered to change out of sweatpants. Nor have I attempted to take Emerie out in the snow. It's just way too deep to even enjoy playing in! Hubs and I have been talking about what we want in our next house (always a topic of conversation around here) and I've found 2 more houses that we hope to look at next weekend. Looking for houses on the internet has become my new hobby since I can't get outside to run. :) Although after cleaning our house today, I am no longer sure I want a bigger house! More to clean. Yuck. Haha.
Also, we are 3 and a half days away from our big gender/anatomy ultrasound! Wooohooo! We can't wait to find out what this little babe is! :)
Okay, that's enough randomness for now. Be back tomorrow for 5 on Friday! :)

5 on Friday: {New Home Must Haves}

I am pretty sure that every Friday I start my post with some variation of "I'm so glad it's Friday" but seriously--'s.Friday. I don't think I've been this exhausted since the first trimester, but man I'm tired. It's been a week to say the least. However, rather than spend the next portion of this post complaining about my week, I've decided to use this 5 on Friday to talk about the top 5 things that I want in our next home (and since our house is for sale, hopefully we will have a new home before we have this new baby!).
Link up with Darci and friends to join the fun!
  photo db7528c5-a5c8-4eb0-9519-22997b018248_zps7d56832d.jpg
{ONE} Bedrooms on one floor. I don't care if they are all on the second floor or if it's a one story and they are all together there. I just want 3-4 bedrooms on one floor. Our current home doesn't have all of the bedrooms on the same floor and it is soooo inconvenient when you have young kids! We are hoping to move before baby love #2 is born so that everyone will be in a central location.
{TWO} A basement. We would love to have a house with a finished basement (even if it's only partially finished). It would be a nice space to host friends and to relax in after the babies are in bed. We also have two big dogs so a basement would be a great place for them to stay most of the time. I am tired of vacuuming every other day due to dogs that shed all year round! Our dogs are like our first babies so we refuse to leave them outside all the time. Not an option for us, but a finished basement would be a great happy medium!
 Basement Living
(I love the cozy feel of this basement)
{THREE} A fenced yard. This one would be fairly easy to fix if we bought a house that didn't already have fencing, but it would be nice if we found one that already had it. One less thing to do! We would like a fenced yard so that we don't have to worry about where the dogs or kids are wandering off to (not that they ever go outside without us right there, but I would feel better if my kids were playing in a fenced in area). However, if we happened to find a house that we liked that came with several acres, we wouldn't worry about fencing.
{FOUR} An updated kitchen. I don't love to cook but it's something that I have to do at least several times a week so a nice kitchen with stainless steel appliances wouldn't hurt. :)
(I love the stone island in this kitchen!)
{FIVE} There are a couple of odds and ends left over that I'd like in a house... a mudroom/laundry room so that we could store all of the stuff we lug in from the car each day. Right now it gets piled onto bar stools in the kitchen. We have a closeted laundry room and I don't love it. A fireplace is also a must. We have one in our current house but it needs new logs and I don't want to spend the money on that right now. The house we used to rent had a wonderful gas log fireplace and I used to love relaxing and reading by the fire. I love the coziness that it adds to the house in the fall and winter.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Stay warm!
(also, if you are reading on Bloglovin' I hope the pictures in this post showed up, sometimes pictures from other websites don't show up!)
