Sweet Summer

I love that I am off from work allllllll summer (minus three work days). It has been wonderful! What a blessing that hubs is a teacher too and we get to spend every morning sleeping in together! We haven't done anything too exciting yet. Just swimming in our pool pretty much every day and working on our new house. Did I mention I'm tired of working on the house? Who knew moving and unpacking and decorating could be such a process. We are finding that our decorations from our previous home don't look good in our new home and suddenly we don't have enough curtains? Our house we were renting was a little bit bigger than the one we bought but suddenly we need more of everything here... Weird. We are enjoying being home owners though and feel blessed that God supplied us with the means and ways to purchase our home!

In regards to my previous post, I did in fact start running..... and guess what?! It felt good. I felt proud! I am going to do this. I am going to run in a 5K at VA Beach in September! I can't wait! I've decided (after researching) that the best way to start training is to run/walk. So I've been doing that... running until I'm tired, then walking until I feel okay again, and then running more. The only time limit I've given myself is that I have run/walk for at least twenty minutes. I run two days, off one day, run two days, off one day. I am also going to reward myself for meeting small goals. My first goal was to run 4 times this week and today will be run #3! If I meet my goal I am going to spend $20 on myself (clothes probably)... which I rarely do so I'm excited! For some reason I have been able to meet all of my goals in life (graduate college, work in higher ed, get my masters, land a teaching job, etc), except this running goal. I have started to train for a 5K a million times and big fat FAIL every time. Why? Grad school is way harder than running... why has this goal kicked my butt a million times? I don't know but it's not going to this time! (I'm giving myself a pep talk if you didn't notice!). Anyways........ I've been successful so far this week and I plan to continue to do so.

"If you run, you are a runner. It doesn't matter how fast or how far. It doesn't matter if today is your first day or if you've been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run."  --John Bingham
"I run because it's so symbolic of life. You have to drive yourself to overcome the obstacles. You might feel that you can't. But then you find your inner strength, and realize you're capable of so much more than you thought."  --Arthur Blank

Happy running!

Happy New Year! =)

As a teacher my year starts in mid-August and ends in early June, the days in between are days for reflection and rejuvenation. Obviously this is different than the normal calendar year. Well as you all know, at the end of each year people come up with "New Year's Resolutions." Since my year just ended, I've come up with my list of resolutions goals.
Career: Revamp my classroom website, organize my unit files into binders.
Physical: Learn to love running and be able to run at least a 5K distance only stopping once or twice to walk. Sign up for a race. Preferably at the beach. =)
Spiritual: Pray more. A lot more. "He must become greater; I must become less." John 3:30
Misc.: Be a positive example. Try not to get caught up in the negativity of others or situations. Smile more. Drink more water. Take more pictures. Enjoy life. Take nothing for granted.
Easy right? =)

Happy Summer!

..................a time to reflect, grow closer to God, visit old friends, sleep in, go on vacation, and unpack/decorate our new home. Summer is a time for me to be inspired, a time to change, a time to embrace life and all of the many adventures ahead........................
Happy Summer!

Not So Patiently Waiting

Every year, several times a year, I get this urge that won't go away. You see, I went to college that was less than an hour away from the beach. A school that had local beaches all around it... Huntington Park Beach, Yorktown Beach, and of course all of the various beaches along the Chesapeake Bay. I loved seeing that beautiful red sky at night, smelling the salty air, hearing the cries of the sea gulls. I enjoyed seeing surf boards and kayaks on top of cars. I gave in to going to restaurant after restaurant that served fresh seafood. I even got used to the traffic and the underwater tunnels. And now about three or four times a year, I begin to feel that urge to go back. That urge to pack up everything I own and move back down to the beach. But because I know that is not realistic, I settle for planning a trip back down to that beautiful ocean front city full of red skies and salty air. Virginia Beach has become a home away from home for me and hubs. A large part of our early relationship took place in the Hampton Roads area... I love to reminisce when we go back down and visit our alma maters (mine CNU, his ODU). Takes me back to the beginning of our relationship and reminds me of all of the new things we experienced together. As you can tell from this post, my craving for Hampton Roads is back with full force.... I can almost taste Plaza and Tropical Smoothie........
Not so patiently waiting to go back,

Hello Christina, where have you been?

I'm still blogging! I've just been MIA for the past few weeks because we moved into our new home! Woohoo! It's a long exhausting process but we are all moved in... well everything we own is in our new home... not all unpacked though! We have been painting and moving (and buying) furniture. It's been fun but definitely exhausting for me because it happened right before school ended and I had to move my classroom too! Needless to say, I'm over moving. I'm so happy to be on summer break... two months off! Yes! I have one meeting at the end of this month and one at the end of next month but other than that... I'm a free bird. =) We are going to Oklahoma and to the beach this summer. I need a vacation after all this moving!

Will be posting more blogs soon! Thanks for sticking with me followers! =)
