Year In Review: 2009

Wow, I can't say that I'm sad to see 2009 go. It's been an insanely busy year. So as a final blog post for 2009, here is what this past year has looked like.
I quit my job of 2 years and began student teaching with the world's best mentor teacher. I taught 1st grade for 12 weeks and I loved, loved, loved every minute of it. God totally blessed that experience for me. During that time, we got this little fur baby.

Piper and Mason quickly bonded and share a love of hiking.

Hubs and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary on April 26! I can't believe how fast we are approaching year 2!

(This was our anniversary trip to TN)

Shortly after that trip, I landed my dream job for the fall! This was a huge event for me this year because quitting my job of 2 years was scary (especially with the economy).
About two months after our trip I began teaching summer school and the rest of our summer was filled with family and friends. We took our nephew swimming at the river.

Our friends (and my former college roomies) came to visit and it was so great to hang out with them again. We don't get to see them often enough!

(Heather and Joey)

We also went on our annual camping trip with my family. It is always a lot of fun, relaxing at the lake, swimming, grilling out, and fishing!

We learned on this trip that Piper does not like to swim! =)
We also took a trip to the beach! Summer quickly ended and before I knew it, I was starting my first year of teaching! It's been a fun year so far. Here is a picture of my classroom before it was decorated and completed:

As you can tell, our school is very old. It's actually a pod school (meaning you have to go outside to take the kids to specials, lunch, etc.) but I love it!! My classroom actually looks a lot different now. This was taken during the summer as I was setting things up.
The end of 2009 has been surprisingly laidback (which I'm grateful for). We recently received 2+ feet of snow and had a wonderful Christmas, which I blogged about here.

Whew. I hope I'm not forgetting anything important! It's been such a whirlwind year that I feel like Piper was a puppy years ago! I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful New Year celebration! We are going to a friend's house to celebrate!

Bring on 2010! =)

Blessed Beyond Measure

Hello everyone! I'm back! I hope everyone had a great Christmas. We have been so blessed this Christmas I can't even describe it! Here is a quick recap of our WONDERFUL Christmas!

Hubs and I on Christmas Eve

My mom and dad got me an Ipod Touch!!!

They got hubs one too! He was so excited.

Dad! Love him! =)

Hubs got me a lot of awesome gifts! This awesome purple Nine West purse and wallet is one of the many wonderful things I received!
We spent lots of time with family this Christmas. We made our rounds and ate way too much but it was wonderful. With all of the amazing gifts and celebrations it's easy to forget the real reason behind Christmas. I'm so thankful that God gave us the most amazing gift of all! Christ, Our King! What a wonderful time of year.

And of course to top it all off, we had a white Christmas (the Friday/Saturday before Christmas we received 2+ feet of snow!)

Piper looks like she's swimming!

Piper was decorated with snowballs after she played. Golden retrievers have crazy fur! She even had snowballs on her long paw fur! =)

Lets play!

Now on to 2010. The year of excitment, new experiences, and visiting new places! Here is a sneak peak at what 2010 holds for us (we hope!).

A trip to New York City! (not the most flattering picture of me but Mason joined in accidentally and he's too cute not to post!)

Buying a home! Possibly this one (where we live now!).

An entire summer off from work (both of us)!
Complete with a trip to the beach!

We also hope to get a gym membership this year. I'm really looking forward to all that this year holds. On top of all of this excitement, I get this entire week off from work! Definitely counting my blessings! Happy 2010 to come!

Snowed In: 22+ inches of snow!

We're snowed in! It's been snowing nonstop since 3:00 yesterday afternoon and we are up to 22 inches! It's still coming down hard and its estimated to be 1-3 inches per hour today! Piper and Mason are loving the snow. I'll post pictures of them playing in it later! =) Hopefully being snowed in will give me the motivation to clean the house and wrap Christmas presents. Hopefully. It may just make me lazy and I could possibly curl up on the couch under a fleece blanket with some coffee and a Christmas movie! =)
Yesterday was my last day with the kiddos until January 4th! It is definitely a much needed break. We got out of school an hour early yesterday because of the forecast but the kids didn't find out about it and I didn't tell them until it was almost time to go (stuff like that makes them way to hyper/excited). It was a crazy week at school and I didn't get too much accomplished other than making Christmas ornaments and decorating their clay pots for their parents' presents. We had a little party yesterday and at 2:15 I was practically running to my car! =) I love my job but man do I need some down time!
I am still behind on Christmas shopping. I need to get two more things for my mom, one more for my dad, and a few more gifts for Phil's side of the family. Hopefully I can get everything cleaned and taken care of at home (since it's impossible to go anywhere today or tomorrow probably) and I can Christmas shop on Monday.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

Not 2, But 3 Years

As I started writing this post I started to say 2 years ago on December 16, 2006.... Wait. 2006? THREE YEARS AGO? Yes, it's been 3 years since I graduated from my undergraduate program. 3 years. I'm old. I miss college. I miss being 40 minutes from the beach. I miss not having any responsibilities other than going to class and getting good grades. I miss hanging out with college roomies. I miss caring about my body and working out (sad that I don't do much working out now, but hey who has the time and energy?). I miss my sorority sisters. I miss lots of things. But I digress, three years ago I left Christopher Newport University and what have I been up to since then? Well, here's a look at my life since graduation.....
  • Landed a job working in higher ed at the University of Virginia.
  • Worked there for two years, met some incredible people, discovered what I truly wanted to do in life.
  • Moved into a beautiful house that we are now hoping to buy within the next two months.
  • Married the love of my life.
  • Started and finished my Master's degree.
  • Landed my dream job teaching 2nd grade.
It's been a whirlwind that's for sure. I finally feel satisfied as far as educational and career goals are concerned. There are other things that I am still not completely satisfied with but I'm working on those things. With all the stress that going to grad school full time (while working full time) brought with it, I'm glad that I did it. It made me a stronger more focused person. It made me learn time management. It made me appreciate the time I spend with my husband. It has all paid off. I don't feel like a lost college student searching for a purpose. I am working in a field that is fulfilling (and challenging). I'm a grown up. Bittersweet isn't it? So as I enter into the New Year (I know it's still a few weeks away), I will be thinking about all of the places that I've been but I'll also be looking forward to the excitement of life that lies ahead. =)

Happy Holidays! Jesus is the reason for the season! =)

Running Behind and SNOW!

It's been awhile since my last post (aren't I always saying that?). In my defense, I've kept up will of your wonderful blogs. I just haven't put any effort into my own! With that said, here's what I've been up to, or, uh, not up to. I'm behind. Like really behind. I haven't done ANY Christmas shopping except for buying a gift for a child we "adopted" for Christmas. Not one thing for anyone else, well I take that back. I did buy my dad something but it may not fit. Ugh. Why am I such a slacker? Hubs has promised to Christmas shop with me tonight! That is............... if we don't get snowed in! Look what I woke up to!

Beautiful! Why couldn't it happen on Sunday night or Monday morning so we could get a snow day? I don't know but I love snow so I'll take it! Maybe it will help get me in a Christmas spirit. So beside being behind on this blog and shopping, I have also been behind on cleaning, lesson planning, grading papers, paying bills (don't worry, they were all paid this week and NOT overdue! I just usually get them paid the day we get paid to get them out of the way for the month.), and getting my car inspected. Blah. That's a lot be behind on. I'm hoping I'll gain some motivation this weekend to get all the lesson planning and paper grading done. The bills are paid. My car, well it will be inspected sometime this week I guess. Cleaning. Ugh. Haha! So anyways.... I don't have an excuse. I'm just lazy this month! Hope everyone is doing well!
