Please Excuse My Blog Rut

It's been quite awhile since my last post, due in part by life and in part because I haven't had anything interesting to say. I'll be honest... I still don't! I am definitely in a blog rut. I'll update you anyway. October is a crazy month in 2nd grade and the kids are HYPED up on sugar. We've had two birthday parties already this week and we are having a Fall Party tomorrow. I will be honest in saying that I don't expect to get much done tomorrow other than giving a few tests and trying to maintain my sanity until 3:12 p.m. One of the teachers had a really cute idea for a fall project this month. The kids decorated pumpkins (at home) to make them look like their favorite character from a book. They turned out super cute. Here are a few pictures of my class' pumpkins. You will see Batman, Ariel, Chicken Little, Rover, Not Norman, Hulk, even Santa Claus, and several others!

I'm happy because:
1. tomorrow is Friday.
2. tomorrow is jeans day.
3. tomorrow is PAY DAY.
4. tomorrow is our dinner date night!

Happy almost Friday!

Junk Food Junkie

So I made the mistake of allowing hubs to grocery shop while I was at parent/teacher conferences last week and my body is paying for it. He bought alllllllllllll junk food. Chips, dips, chocolate, cookies, snack cakes, frozen meals (like TGI Friday's loaded potato skins), etc. Blah. While I love my fair share of junk food... my stomach is craving yogurt, fruit, cheese and crackers, and salads. I would be lying if I said I hadn't gained weight. Yikes.

Hubs and I have decided to check out gym memberships this week. We are looking into Anytime Fitness and Powerhouse Gym. Any suggestions? I hope that once we join I get really into it and go regularly. I'm definitely bored with my routine in the afternoons. Come home, eat, check blogs and facebook, eat, check email, eat, watch tv, eat. Ahhhhh. Vicious cycle.

Hubs and I <3

♥ What are your middle names?
Marie and Brian.
♥How long have you been together?
6 and a half years (married for 1 and a half)
♥ How long did you know each other before you started dating?
A few years.... we were friends in high school and started dating my senior year (he's a year older).
♥ Who asked who out?
He asked me to go out with him on Valentine's Day.
♥ Who made the first move?
He did... after our date on Valentine's Day, he sent me flowers (2 weeks later) on my birthday and took me out again.
♥ Did you go to the same school?
We went to the same high school but different colleges. We started dating my senior year of high school and he was already in college. I chose a school five hours away from his so the first year of our relationship was long distance (other than the summer). He then transferred to a school closer to mine (not only to be close to me but they also had a better program for him).
♥ Are you from the same home town?
Yep.
♥ Who is the smartest?
Me. Haha. Kidding. I don't know who is the smartest. I think we are both intelligent people and are smart in different areas.
♥ Who majored in what?
I majored in Communication Studies as an undergraduate and Elementary Education (PK-6) for my Master's. He majored in Health and Physical Education as an undergraduate.
♥ Who is the most sensitive?
Definitely me without a doubt. I am super sensitive.
♥ Where do you eat out most as a couple?
A Mexican resturaunt called El Puerto. Yum.
♥ Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
Oklahoma. Driving from Virginia.... took us THREE days to get there. Haha.
♥ Who has the worst temper?
He does. There are times when I can be just as angry as he is but for the most part I have more patience. We both have endless patience with kids though. Just with each other.... eh... not so much.
♥ How many children do you want?
Not really sure at the moment. I go through phases where I can't wait to have kids and then phases where the thought of pregnancy and childbirth terrifies me. I've always wanted 2 or 3. He says 4. I think he will quickly change his mind!
♥ Who does the cooking?
I do most of the cooking although I don't like to cook.
♥ Who is more social?
He is more social than I am. I have become more of a homebody the past year or so. Don't get me wrong, I love hanging out with friends... I would just rather do it at someone's house with a few people not at a bar or a party.
♥ Who is the neat-freak?
Neither of us like a messy house but I would say I'm more concerned with everything being in it's place than he is.
♥ Who is the most stubborn?
We are both incredibly stubborn. He usually caves first.
♥ Who wakes up earlier?
I wake up earlier than hubs. He would sleep till noon everyday if he could.
♥ Where was your first date?
We went to dinner and a movie. Very traditional. I actually ordered a salad. I don't think I've ordered a salad as a meal since that night.
♥ Who has the bigger family?
I have the bigger immediate family. I have three sisters.
♥ Do you get flowers often?
No. Flowers are pretty but they die. I would rather him buy me a scarf. Haha. Or a card, or candy, etc.
♥ How do you spend the holidays?
We split the time between his family and mine. I love holidays!
♥ Who is more jealous?
It used to be me, but now neither one of us really get jealous.
♥ How long did it take to get serious?
Not long. We were crazy about each other from the beginning. We dated for three years before we got engaged but we knew we were going to spend our lives together before then!
♥ Who eats more?
Probably me as sad as that is to say. I love food. I can't help it! =)
♥ What do you do for a living?
I am a second grade teacher and he is an elementary school PE teacher and JV boys basketball coach.
♥ Who does the laundry?
This may sound weird... but we each do our own laundry. Don't judge.
♥ Who’s better with the computer?
Me.
♥ Who drives when you are together?
Usually him because I don't like to drive.
♥ What is "your" song?
We have had many songs over the years but we danced to Angel Eyes at our wedding reception so that's technically "our song".

Fall Favorites and Cold Weather

I love waking up to a clean house! Hubs and I spent all afternoon yesterday cleaning the house. I mean really cleaning it. Vacuuming, mopping the hardwood floors and the bathrooms, scrubbing down every surface, etc. It felt so good to wake up to everything in it's place this morning! I am really enjoying this weekend... I don't have to go to my classroom this weekend. I am already prepared for next week so I can just relax and continue to reorganize the house!

Tonight hubs and I are going out to his grandparent's farm for dinner. My mother-in-law's birthday was on Thursday so we are having a birthday dinner for her tonight. I love spending time at the farm. The views from the top of the hill on the back field are amazing! Someday hubs and I want to build a huge farmhouse with a wrap around porch and stone fireplace on the top of that hill....... someday. Dreams.

Moving on, apparently winter wanted to pay our part of Virginia a visit this week and I was greeted with a 38 degree temperature on several mornings and evenings this week. I'm not quite ready for that yet... I am a firm believer that if it is going to be that cold it should snow. Afterall, we have six built in snow days this year! I want to use them all! Other than that I don't have anything too exciting to report from this past week or anything to exciting to talk about for the upcoming week. So I will just include a list of a few of my current fall favorites:
1. Drink (aside from pumpkin spice lattes) Alpine Spiced Cider. YUM.
2. Accessory: Scarves and lots of them.
3. Makeup: Dr. Pepper Bonne Bell chapstick. (Don't judge).
4. Clothing: Fleece vests and jackets.
5. Song: Need You Now by Lady Antebellum

I Hear You God.

For the past few weeks my pastor has been talking about being a servant to others. There are so many passages in the Bible that talk about serving others. I am trying to figure out who/what/where God is calling me to serve. I don't really know in what way yet or how but I am hoping to find some clarity so your prayers are appreciated! I am also praying to find a small group. Pastor Jeff had another good point in his sermon today.... "If you are too busy for ministry, you're too busy." This hit home with me because I was talking to my sister on Saturday about how I would like to be a part of a small group but that I was way too busy to lead one and didn't want the added responsibility. So when Pastor Jeff said that phrase "If you are too busy for ministry, you're too busy".......Slap.in.the.face. I'm praying about it!

In other news, I have parent/teacher conferences this week. Tuesday night I am meeting with several parents and Friday morning as well. The good news is.... I get to leave at 11:30 on Friday morning because my conferences will be over and I will have worked late Tuesday night! Yay for an early start to next weekend! The kids are lucky too... no school for them on Friday. =)

Hope your week is blessed as Monday morning is fast approaching!

Meet Me Downtown

This week was busy and I've been completely out of it! Yesterday on my way to work I passed my exit on the interstate and didn't realize it until I was three miles farther down the road. The exit I got off was 8 miles from the one I should have taken. So after a 16 mile detour I finally made it to work (with plenty of time to spare, thankfully I left early that morning!). Needless to say, I'm really glad that it's Saturday and a nice cool fall day (even if it is cloudy). My sister and I decided to meet for breakfast this morning and then we went downtown. We had a great time! Here are a few pictures from our trip.

Welcome to downtown Staunton, VA

I love Coffee on the Corner!

Weddings, Babies, and Report Cards... and Other Random Thoughts

It's been awhile since my last blog because I have been crazy busy at work. Report cards are due to my principal on Monday and since this is the first set of report cards that I've ever done, it's taking me a little longer to do them... not to mention the 1,000 things I have yet to finish on my "to do" list. Hubs and I were supposed to go to a wedding today but unfortunately because of our work schedules we can't go. I feel terrible because it's one of my college roommates who is saying I do! Their wedding is on the Eastern Shore (about 4.5 hours away from our house, maybe more) and neither one of us could miss work on Monday (report cards are due.....blah). So it would take us about 10 hours of driving to go there and come back and we wouldn't have been able to stay for the reception. I'm sad that we can't go because I love Chrissy! She is the sweetest person and we have stayed friends since college (it will be three years in December since I finished undergrad, time flies!). I wish her all the best on her wedding day. She deserves all the happiness in the world!

Unfortunately, hubs was sick all night last night. I don't know if it was something that he ate or if he has a virus but he is not feeling well. Poor guy. Hopefully it was just something that he ate and he will be feeling better after a few hours of sleep and Pepto.

Moving on.... I won a giveaway! Katie from Katie's Journey had her first giveaway this past week and I won a candle! Thanks Katie!

In other exciting news, my good friends Lindsey and Matt just announced that they are expecting their first child in April! Yay! Congrats to Lindz and Matt!

I know this was a completely random post but it's the best I can do under my currently stressed out condition! I promise I'll post a better blog after report cards and my to do list are caught up!
